To procrastinate or not to procrastinate?
I am pumped for you guys to hear the second episode of ‘the balanced girl’. I got to chat with the incredible Rory Vaden! Rory is a multitude of amazing things and that’s why I was so drawn to have him on the podcast! Rory is a New York Times Best Selling Author, a Key Note speaker (um, yes he has a TEDx Talk!) and a co-founder of a brand strategy firm! Just seeing that very impressive resume of inspirational and motivational titles I just knew I NEEDED to pick his brain!
What I love about Rory is that his focus is letting people know it’s possible to kick procrastination in the butt! I am obsessed with what I read in his book Procrastinate on Purpose(a genius title for a book too!) So we all know that ‘the balanced girl’ is all about finding that balance in the chaotic everyday life so he seemed like my kinda’ guy to talk to! I am always on the go doing things, especially lately with my new projects of this website, the podcast and my cookbook launch, I am SO READY to learn how I can procrastinate on purpose, what was most interesting is that Procrastinate is one of the points in his guide of 5 Permissions!
I learned that his first book was called Take the Stairs and is a metaphor for literally getting off your tush and doing what you don’t feel like doing and really just giving yourself that little nudge and push to get it done and getting into the flow of feeling successful.
We live in an escalated world where people are looking for the shortcut, they gravitate towards the path of least resistance. They look for the easy way. And yet the truth about success in anything is that successful people have developed the ability to do the things they know they should be doing. Even when they don’t feel like doing them.

Rory presented to me in a nutshell that Procrastinate on Purpose is for leaders that have a lot going on. Which, hello, could quite literally be the bible for me right now. I am literally obsessed with the 5 permissions he has listed and keep telling people about them, and how they have been a total game changer for my everyday life right now.
My favorite part of the episode is when Rory’s gives the tip of making a “No-list”, he lets me know that when you say yes to everything you are actually saying no to things, whether its intentional or not. You’ve got to give yourself permission to say no to things like creating a strict rule of not doing meetings at a certain time or on a certain day. To make time to invest in your family, friends and Y-O-U.
Another big thing that stuck out to me in his book is he says that everything we know about Time Management is WRONG! So I quiz Rory on this and he tells me you you gotta’ forget about all these tactics of apps and calendars, you become behind, busied and literally BURIED. What you need to do is step back and see that the time management tactics out there right now are all logical. None of them are taking in the emotional side of things. Like the emotions of fear and guilt or the need to be recognized! Rory then delves into how most listeners would not have taken in the emotional side of productivity.
We can't stop time. We can't pause time, we can't fast forward time. We can't rewind time, there is no such thing as time management. There is only self-management, there is only the ability to manage our emotions manage our choices and for us to choose what gets our attention.

Now that is a mic drop if I ever heard one! But not literally as that’s just a TASTER of the tips and expert advice the high energy and can-do expert Rory brings to the table in the podcast Procrastinate on Purpose.
